LiDAR is an active system that uses laser pulses to create a highly detailed scan of the environment. It can be collected by airplanes, satellites, or drones, and generates a point cloud that can be processed into digital terrain and surface models, as well as 3D products. When combined with aerial imagery or other spatial products, LiDAR supports a variety of applications from spatial planning to forest management.
